Labor and Employment Law Update 2023
Once again, the new year brings multiple changes to Illinois labor and employment laws. The Illinois legislature has enacted a number of new laws taking effect as of 2023. For example, Illinois employers should be aware of several changes to meal and rest break requirements, including a mandatory day of rest period every seven consecutive days. The legislature also enacted amendments to the Child Bereavement Act, changing the name to the Family Bereavement Act and expanding the definition of a covered family member and the reasons for leave. The so-called “CROWN” Act amends the Illinois Human Rights Act to include hair-based discrimination protections. We will also discuss other new Illinois laws, as well as several important rulings and policies from the Biden Administration NLRB and other federal agencies.
Participants in this seminar will learn about:
• New and recent labor and employment laws in Illinois,
• New policies and rulings from the Biden administration, and
• The potential impact on their employees and workplace.
