Robots…tomorrow's workforce?

TREP today is a different organization than it was at its inception nearly 30 years ago, while its goal of preparing today’s students for tomorrows workforce is the same. Today, TREP is guided by research that demonstrates that students who complete a STEM course of study typically reference a local, personal and relevant STEM experience as motivationnot excelling in the subject. Persistence is tied to the student identifying with a STEM professional. Hence, our goal is to connect manufacturing (STEM) professions with the next generation of scientists, engineers and operators by creating experiences that are local, personal and relevant.
This fall, we are introducing a new program, Mindstorms. Envisioned as an after-school enrichment program for middle school students, students are exposed to engineering and technology concepts using Lego Robotics kits. With an engaging operator or engineer as the lead, middle school students learn to solve a problem using a robot. For the 6-week session, the students work in teams to design a solution and the mentor guides students to try new approaches and find optimal solutionsessentially mirroring our modern, manufacturing workforceworking in teams, continuously improving, thinking both critically and creatively.
TREP’s goal is to seed as many middle school robotics programs as possible, and we need VOLUNTEERS to be the classroom mentors.
